Vitamin B2

(riboflavin, lactoflavin)

Vitamin B2 was first isolated from milk and its structure was determined by Kuhn in 1935. Latter it was done its chemical synthesis (Karrer).

Vitamin B2 is synthesized by all plants and many microorganisms, but not the higher animals and human.

Vitamin B2 is like vitamin B1 important for the production of body energy.

In rats has been found that this vitamin as same as flavin, stimulates the growth of young rats.
