Omega fatty acids
(omega-3 fatty acid, omega-6 fatty acid, ω-3, ω-6, unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin F)
Essential fatty acids has to be consumed by food because they can not be synthesized and are essential for biological processes. The term essential fatty acids refers to fatty acids required for biological processes and not include the fats that act as fuel.
When discovered in 1923, the essential fatty acids were called vitamin F, but in 1929 it was decided to classify them as fats.
