Nicotinic acid

(niacin, vitamin B3, niacinamide, vitamin PP)

Niacin is known since 1867. During the period from 1937 unitl 1939 it was synthesized and then was definitely determined the effect of the preparation, naturally isolated from the liver and synthetically derived. It is considered as the best agent for lowering cholesterol in the blood. It was noted significantly reduced the mortality rate of people by a heart attack, if they used this vitamin.

The term niacin is commonly used for the two forms of vitamin B3: nicotinic acid and nicotinamide.
